going to have to go with johhny cash , or the beatles depending about what aspect of music you are talking about.
but either or Ives or Beethoven had the single bigest impact on the way music is writen. up untill Arnold Schoenberg can up with dodecaphonic music.. that is music that uses all 12 notes evenly, for all you non music majors out there.

What about Elvis' effect on Rock and Roll?
What about the effect of the Beastie Boys on rap?
What about the effect of Michael Jackson on shitty pop music?
What about the effect of Beethoven on Classical music - his 9th symphony had LYRICS in it, and it wasn't opera! *gasp*
What about Gershwin's effect?
What abotu Roger and Hammerstein's effect on musicals?

elvis stole most of his music so is a thief. there would be no rap if it was not for the recoding tych. pionered by the beatles. as for MJ i would argue that it was the monkeys or the peatrege family that had more impact.

the monkeys had more influence than michael jackson? i beg to differ, if you ask most musicians today if michael jackson or the monkeys have influenced thier music, they are going to say michael jackson, not the monkeys although i am not saying i dont like the monkeys.. davy jones is dreamy hahahahahaha and i am a musical addict (another secret obsession) so i say r &h have had a major impact on that genre of music
